In several projects of the Hamburg Open Online University (HOOU) I experimented with tools and workflows for developing Open Educational Resources (OER). Markdown, GitLab, Docker, Pandoc and various static page generators were always in the focus. I would now like to transfer the experience gained from the production of open learning materials to the publication process of scientific literature.
Following Herrmann (2003), it is important for me to consider social, cultural and organizational aspects as besides technical aspects and to understand the system to be developed as socio-technical.
Under this premise, the importance of the actors involved becomes clear, which are primarily the authors of scientific literature, but also the organizations and institutions involved in publication processes.
If publishing is the goal under the ideas of Open Science and Open Access, then an essential part of our work is to develop a shared value concept and attitude among the actors involved.
